Arable farming
Sustainable arable farming balances high yields with environmental and climate protection. Agricultural policy must be designed such that farmers can earn money not only from their agricultural products but also from their contributions to biodiversity, healthy soils, clean air and water, and climate change mitigation.
Around 12 million hectares of land in Germany are used for arable farming to produce food, animal feed and raw materials for the bioeconomy. The challenge for arable farming is to maintain high yields while substantially reducing negative environmental and climate impacts. Achieving this requires site-specific fertilization, integrated plant protection and a diverse agricultural landscape. Multifunctional agriculture is complex and demanding. Agora Agriculture develops proposals for policies that enable farmers to be appropriately remunerated for their contributions to sustainability.
