The future of agriculture and food in a climate neutral and competitive EU

What will it take to secure viable and sustainable land use economies?

What this event is about

As the EU moves closer to climate neutrality, the role of agriculture and forestry becomes ever more central. When supported by the right incentives, the land use sectors have the potential to increasingly contribute to climate and biodiversity objectives, while continuing to ensure food security and provide income opportunities for land users. The current EU legislative period is pivotal for creating an enabling policy environment for a sustainable future of these sectors in the context of the food system and the bioeconomy.

This legislative period is a critical juncture. A new budget will be designed and the next stage in EU climate policy developed. Equipped with the outcomes of the multistakeholder Strategic Dialogue, the European Commission will publish a Vision for Agriculture and Food during the first 100 days of its new mandate. This vision will play an important role in shaping policy priorities.

Our speakers and panellists debated the dilemmas and potential of land use, as well as policies to maintain and develop viable and sustainable rural economies in the EU. The audience was also given the opportunity to contribute to the discussion with their own perspectives and questions. The day ended with a fruitful exchange and a reception.
