Forests
A successful forestry policy prioritizes the multifunctionality of forests, carefully balancing wood production with other societal functions.
More than 30 percent of Germany is covered with forest. Besides wood provision, forests play an important role for biodiversity and climate protection. They store carbon, contribute to water storage and fulfil valuable socio-cultural functions, such as recreational areas.
Despite their importance to society, the multiple ecosystem services provided by forests have not been properly valued, resulting in provision shortages. Moreover, climate change endangers forests and the essential services they deliver. Agora Agriculture focuses on forest management integrating the various sustainability goals and develops proposals for a target-oriented forest policy.
